Base and precious metals are mined mainly in the northern half of Saskatchewan, where the Precambrian Shield stretches across our province. Base and precious metals found here and mined at one time or another include copper, zinc, lead, platinum, palladium, gold, nickel, molybdenum, and silver. The metals were formed during the Proterozoic and Archeozoic Era, when the Canadian or Precambrian Shield was being formed. At that geological time, no life as we know it, existed on the earth.
