Potassium, one of the elements found in potash, has been used as a fertilizer for centuries. Plants require potassium, among other elements, for healthy growth by helping the plant to use nitrogen and phosphate more effectively.
Potash is used worldwide in virtually every major agricultural industry. It is well suited for application on such important crops as corn and most other grain crops, as well as soybeans, oil palms, coffee, sugar cane, cotton, fruit and vegetables. Roughly 95 per cent of world potash production goes into fertilizer, while the other five per cent is used in commercial and industrial products - everything from soap to television tubes.
