- Radioactive decay
- spontaneous transformation of one element to another ot one isotope to another accompanied by emission of subatomic particles
- Radioactivity
- emission of alpha and beta particles and gamma rays, plus heat energy, as a result of radioactive decay
- Radium
- a radioactive element produced by the decay of uranium ore; used in luminous paints
- Recrystallization
- a group of processes that reorganize the chemical components of minerals while they remain solid crystals and form new minerals more stable at elevated pressures and temperatures
- Refraction
- a change in direction of light (or energy wave) as it passes from one substance or medium through a substance or medium of different density
- Resource
- anything that will meet a need; potential wealth of a country (as in natural resource)
