Macronutrient
Chemical element required in large amounts (0.05 to several %) for the growth of plants. e.g. calcium, magnesium, phophorus, potassium, nitrogen

Micronutrient
Chemical element required in extremely small amounts (parts per million) for the growth of plants. e.g. boron, chlorine, copper, iron, manganese, zinc

Mineralization
Conversion of an element from organic to inorganic form as a result of microbial decomposition. e.g. proteins in organic matter that are converted to nitrate.

MSG
MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a flavor enhancer derived from beet sugar. MSG is found in some prepared foods and is widely used in restaurants. In some people it causes a reaction known as "Chinese restaurant syndrome," consisting of tightness in the chest, a burning feeling in the neck and forearms, and a headache. This syndrome usually ceases without the need for medical attention.

Mono- & Diglycerides
Food additives - Emulsifiers present in bread, margarine and peanut butter.

Morphology
The physical shape/appearance of a thing.

Mycorrhiza
The association of specific fungi with the roots of specific plants. Usually symbiotic.

Munsell Colour Notation
A system that specifies the relative degree of the three simple variables of colour: hue value and chroma. Written as 6YR 3/1. A hue of 6YR value 3 and chroma 1.
