Nematodes-
Small (0.5 to 1.5mm) worm-like organisms abundant in many soils often attacking many crops and reducing yield.
Neutral Soil-
A soil with a pH from 6.6 to 7.3. Typical of many (non sodic) prairie surface soils.
Nitrification-
The biochemical oxidation of ammoium to nitrate, mainly by autotrophic bacteria e.g. Nitrosammonasand Nitrobacter
Nitrites-
As a food additive, chemicals used in combination with salt to impede the
growth of the bacterial spores that cause botulism. Nitrites
are also used as preservatives and flavor and color
enhancers.
Nitrogen Fixation-
The biological conversion of atmospheric nitrogen to organic combinations or to forms readily used by organisms.
No Till-
See Tillage, Zero Till
Nodule-
A structure developed on the roots of most legumes and some other plants in response to stimulus by Rhizobia bacteria or actinomycetes.
